Complete Streets for Ottawa

11 04 2013

As you may be aware, the City of Ottawa is currently reviewing its Official Plan including the Master Transportation, Pedestrian and Cycling plans.

One of the proposed changes would see Ottawa adopt and implement a Complete Street policy. Put simply, a Complete Street is one designed for all ages, abilities, and modes of travel. On Complete Streets, safe and comfortable access for pedestrians, bicycles, transit users and the mobility-impaired is not an afterthought, but an integral planning feature. Having a Complete Streets policy ensures that transportation planners and engineers consistently design and operate the entire street network for all users, not only motorists. It can be an important tool for making our streets and our community safer, healthier and more sustainable for everyone from 8 to 80 yrs.
