Update on the development of Westboro United Church

This building on Churchill Avenue has been up for sale for some time. It seems like a buyer has been found.

“A proposal that would see Ottawa Bluesfest founder Mark Monahan convert a heritage church in Westboro into a concert hall was blessed Sunday by the congregation that owns the building.

Monahan plans to use the former Westboro United Church on Churchill Avenue as a headquarters for his charitable Ottawa Music Foundation, but also as a place to stage concerts and offer music programs.

The project will also include housing on Edison Avenue and a small office building on the property’s south side.

Built in 1913, the church does not have heritage status, but is one of the fast-growing Westboro community’s oldest buildings and a neighbourhood landmark…”

This is fantastic news. I am sure Mark will get a lot of support to do whatever it takes to make this happen. So happy it isn’t another developer project coming along for more condos and retail.

Love this! Sounds like a very interesting use of the building! It’s a unique idea that will benefit the community.
