Westboro Station phase 2 – this is where it stands now

10 09 2008

For those of you who were left wondering about the status regarding the second phase of Westboro Station you can read an article about it here. (It was published in the August 29th issue of EMC news.)

To summarize: “The city’s planning and environment committee last week unanimously passed a staff recommendation to allow the development of the Westboro Station Phase II condominium.”

Many residents are wondering whether or not the Community Design Plan (CDP) is worth the paper it’s printed on and are expressing dismay with the consultation system.

Only time will tell how this decision will affect future development in Westboro and along Richmond Road. Your thoughts on the matter, as always, are welcome.

Has anyone thought of going to the New Edinburgh Community Association meeting tonight, Sept 10th (it takes place from 7 to 9 p.m at the New Edinburgh Fieldhouse, 193 Stanley Ave). It sounds like they have had similar challenges and some successes in making developers respect the local community design plans. Has anyone begun to think about the Westboro United Church? it was recently announced in the Kitchissipi Times that three United Churches would amalgamate, including Westboro United, and that there would be future decisions made about the disposition of the surplus properties – including Westboro United. It may be worthwhile to get involved ahead of time to influence what happens.

The WCA has already been in touch with someone who has been helping lead the almalgamation process among the three congregations. She has indicated that there will be intentional consultation with the community before any recommendation is made on the disposition of Westboro United.
